World Public Relations Festival reinforces Global Alliance's mission The World Public Relations Festival (WPRF) is one of the most successful initiatives to accomplish the mission of the Global Alliance. We exist to enhance the public relations profession and its practitioners throughout the world and the WPRF is the ideal forum to share ideas and best practice, to identify common interests and develop global standards and, above all, to increase our understanding of the unique aspects that the practice acquires within different cultures. This is precisely what happened in Cape Town last May at the 4th World Public Relations Festival, jointly organised by the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa (PRISA) and the Global Alliance. The theme of the 4th World Public Relations Festival was “Communication for Sustainability” and Africa provided the ideal scenario to learn more about the specific professional challenges in the region and how they contrast and resemble those of other regions worldwide. The Festival was not only about the environment but about how public relations can help to promote sustainable societies by communication. Among other topics, the World Cup 2010 in South Africa was presented as an “Opportunity Africa 2010”, the role of Public Affairs in a democratic society was discussed as well as the contribution of technology for the improvement of communication management.
These and other presentations can now be
found online at the PRISA website for all those who attended
the event but also for the many that couldn’t make it. Take
a look at the presentations while you prepare for the next
Global Alliance’s World Public Relations Festival.
Next year the world’s public relations
community will be visiting London for the 5th edition of the
Festival which will be jointly organised by the Chartered
Institute of Public Relations and the Global Alliance. After
four editions, the World Public Relations Festival has
visited three different continents (Europe, America and
Africa) and returns to Europe to continue a very important
discussion on “The Public Benefit of Public Relations”.
