Member Charter

As a member organisation of the Global Alliance, members agree to support the aims of the Alliance, namely:

The Alliance is a framework for collaboration with a mission to enhance the public relations profession and its practitioners throughout the world.

It aims to provide a forum to:

  • share ideas and best practice
  • seek common interests and standards
  • provide a better understanding of the unique aspects of each culture in which practitioners operate.

And offer access to information regarding:

  • regional or international conferences and seminars
  • case studies
  • awards programs
  • benchmarking research
  • networking opportunities for professionals

And will serve as a vehicle for examining:

  • ethical standards
  • universal accreditation options
  • other initiatives to strengthen the profession around the world

In support of these goals each member organisation pledges to:

  • Endorse the protocol on ethics in Public Relations (by 2006) in order to standardise codes of ethics throughout the world. National associations who join after February 2003 need to agree to endorse the ethics protocol as a condition of acceptance within one year of joining the GA.

  • Participate in the work of the Alliance by offering access to experts within their organisation; taking positions on matters when requested; attending GA council meetings; collaborating in various studies, surveys and benchmarking exercises on a timely basis.

  • Share ideas and suggestions to unify the profession.

  • Ensure that relevant information about their organisation is posted on the GA web site with appropriate links to unique studies and reports.

  • Actively market the GA on its own documentation; prominently displaying the fact that GA members get ‘member rates’ on order forms for any locally available products and services (reports, conferences etc.).

  • Display the GA logo prominently on their web site and main promotional materials in accordance with the marketing committee’s advice.

  • Ensure that annual membership dues are paid (arrangements can be made for smaller and developing associations).

  • Facilitate the signing of formal reciprocity agreements between associations (where appropriate) to allow portability of a member’s status.
