Alliance newsletter
August 2006
Dear Colleagues
This regular selection of news from the
Global Alliance is for all the members of our associations and all
our friends.
Please therefore forward it on via email
or other format, as you wish. We want to share with the members of
our global public relations community the key issues we are handling
and have your involvement as your GA grows.
Message
from Brazil
The
Letter from Brazil followed an excellent conference ‘Public
Relations: The Voice of the World’ organised by Grupo Labor on
behalf of our Brazilian members. It commits our community to
campaign wherever possible for freedom of speech, including on the
internet and in other new technologies.
In my own letter from Brazil, I also set
out our GA vision and report on our progress -

more here.
Communication
for sustainability and communication for development
Our next annual meeting and 4th World Public Relations festival will
be in Cape Town, South Africa -some say the most beautiful city in
the world - 13 May to 15 May 2007. Budget now to be there!
Enquiries about
the festival may be referred to:
margim@prisa.co.za or
susanr@prisa.co.za.
We have also established a most
important direct relationship with the World Bank as we tackle
together critical issues around communication and development.
The Board
We were delighted in Brazil to welcome new members Rosanna Fiske (PRSA),
Gigi de Mier (Puerto Rico) and Furio Garbagnati (Treasurer, Italy)
and to welcome back Ajit Pathak (Secretary, India) and John Paluszek
(USA: GA Ambassador-at-large). Together with
Jean Valin (Immediate Past Chair, Canada) Colin Farrington (Chair-elect,CIPR)
and myself, this forms our new Board. For more information on the
GA Board and
committees, click here.
Reviewing and
renewing
Your Board began in Brazil a major review of our
existing strategic
plan. Please
send us any comments you think may help us in this process. We
are also committed to a review of corporate governance. We need your
help and advice! All ideas and thoughts are welcome.
Research
projects
If you have not completed the
Global
Alliance survey please do so as soon as possible. This is the
first ever audit of the entire PR profession and we will be
producing a summary of results in the Autumn, as well as an update
on other projects.
Best regards
Sejamothopo Motau, FPRISA
Chair, Global Alliance
