Newsletter >
Summer 2004 Dear Colleague Welcome to the quarterly newsletter of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management. Following our Annual General Meeting in Quebec City in June, I am happy to report progress on some of our key files. My thanks to all of those who attended in person or submitted proxies and regrets which were dutifully recorded in the minutes. On behalf of the executive board I also wish to express our thanks to the leadership of the Canadian Public Relations Society for hosting us during their successful conference. Presentations
available online Strategic plan Elections Website - third generation The website will undergo a third transformation very shortly. This upgrade will include a structure that represents our main areas of information, provides more case studies and research documents as well as a searchable database. Some of the tasks related to uploading information will also be automated and delegated to partners. A new feature will consist of a more robust 'News’ section where continental or regional reporters will write and upload their stories on the latest developments in their part of the world. We need volunteers for this task. To offer your services for this and other committees, please see our committee membership list at www.globalpr.org/about/committees.asp Database and software on the practice of public relations The Board and council are exploring a potential partnership arrangement with a company founded in part by Dr. Gerhard Bütschi of Switzerland. The package contains a fulsome database of public relations theory, best practices, case studies and other useful information, as well as a software application which can greatly reduce the time it takes to prepare typical PR products such as plans, news releases, evaluation frameworks etc. As part of the due diligence the board is conducting regarding this potential partnership, we wish to ask if any of our partners have knowledge of similar products that are available on the market. Please contact the Chair if you have any information or concerns. GA supports media transparency effort The executive board agreed to lend its support to the campaign for media transparency. You are encouraged to promote the charter to your members. For more information, read the news release 'Six Global Organisations Join Forces Against Bribery for Media Coverage' at www.globalpr.org/news/features.asp PR Landscapes We have launched this series of country profiles a few months ago and these have been well received. We will soon be adding new profiles on a regular basis as well as updating existing profiles on an annual basis. To access these resources, visit www.globalpr.org/knowledge/landscapes.asp Regulation Study The council has decided that we should add at least six additional countries to our detailed description of how the profession is regulated. In this next phase, we will add three countries where the profession is fully regulated and three others where it is only partially regulated. Once this information is available it will be added to the PR Landscape of the relevant countries. We will also be reviewing the totality of our analysis of those countries in order to take a position on the issue of licensing. Ethics Ratification of Global Protocol We remind our partners that they have until December 2006 to ratify the protocol we adopted concerning codes of ethics. Many of you have already complied with this requirement. Membership in the United Nations As decided in the strategic plan, we have filed our application for status as an NGO with the United Nations. Also on the website...
Best wishes Jean Valin
